Coronavirus crochet keyring

You will need DK cotton yarn in 2 contrasting colours (20metres each)

3mm crochet hook

stuffing

2 safety eyes

1 keyring

sc – single crochet

inc – increase

dec – decrease

Pattern instructions

Body

The body is a basic sphere in single crochet. Instructions in brackets are a repeated series of stitches. Use main colour for the body and contrasting colour for the virus surface antigens (nobbley bits).

Row 1: sc 6 into magin ring

Row 2: inc all the way around (12)

Row 3: (1sc, 1inc) all the way around (18)

Row 4: (2sc, 1inc) all the way around (24)

Row 5: (3sc, 1inc) around (30)

Row 6: (4sc, 1inc) around (36)

Rows 7-10: sc around (36)

Row 11: (4sc, 1dec) around (30)

Row 12: (3sc, 1dec) around (24). Add stuffing. Attach safety eyes between rows 5 and 6, about 6 stitches apart.

Row 13: (2sc, 1dec) around (18)

Row 14: (1sc, 1dec) around (12)

Row 15: (dec) around (6)

Bind off and close up any remaining holes when you weave in the ends.

Nobbley bits

Use contrasting colour. These are just small spheres with the top part pulled down into the bottom part and attached to the body randomly or in a pattern as you prefer. Make about 12

Row 1: sc6 into magic ring

Row 2: inc all the way around (12)

Row 3-4: sc all the way around.

Row 5: dec all the way round. Bind off. Pull the beginning of the yarn through the bottom of your work hard to make the sphere collapse into a bowl shape.

Once you have made the number required, sew onto body

Use yarn in main colour.

ch21, turn

sc into second from hook and then sc to end, turn

ch 1, sc to end. Bind off and leave 20cm tail of yarn for attaching to body.

Double over and sew both ends to body. Attach keyring.

Easy jellyfish teething ring


Abbreviations

Materials

  1. 1 wooden unvarnished curtain hook
  2. DK cotton yarn in colour of your choice
  3. 3mm crochet hook

Coloured band

Ch 21, turn work, sc from second ch back to start, turn.

Continue in sc rows until the band almost wraps round to cover 1/3 of the wooden ring, then join the first and last rows together with a row of sl-st.

Jellyfish body

Row 1: 6 sc in a magic ring

Row 2: inc in every stitch

Row 3 – 1 sc , 1 inc around

Rows 4-5: 2 sc , 1 inc around

Rows 6-8: sc round

Row 9: slip stich to start a fresh row work in front loop of each stitch. This makes a ridge all the way around

Row 10: work into the back of the same row that you have just worked into the front of. Start decreasing 2 sc,1 dec around

Row 11: 1 sc ,1 dec around (add stuffing now)

Row 12: dec around and close but dont cut yarn.

Tentacles

Make as many as you want

Continuing from the middle of the body, chain down then sc back up.

At the base sl-st it to the base of the jellyfish, then repeat working around the base with sl-st to separate the tentacles, filling it out as you like.

Ring

Ch3, turn, sc to end. Continue working this 2 stitch sc chain until the loop goes comfortably round the wooden ring with moving space. Bind off. Sew together so it forms a ring around the wooden ring and sew to the centre of the top of the jelly fish.
